In medical device engineering, as in all human-centric scientific disciplines, sharing knowledge and ideas is central to developing the best, most inclusive solutions. I find a lot of fulfilment in helping people grow their skills, and I have experience teaching classes of various ages and group sizes.
From July 2022 to May 2023, I took some time out of academia to broaden my professional skills, and consider my next steps. As part of this, I undertook the Trinity CertTESOL teaching qualification, alongside my work with a social enterprise (Gotoco). The Trinity CertTESOL is ranked at Ofqual Level 5 (equivalent to second year at an English university), and is geared towards helping new teachers learn the required competencies to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). This fantastic experience helped me build a range of practical competencies and soft skills, including lesson planning, communication, and creative thinking.

1. Six hours of assessed teaching practice
2. Assessed observations of four peers and four experienced teachers
3. An assessed analysis of an individual learner, and tailored curriculum to address their specific needs
4. Four hours studying an unknown language (Thai), and completion of written assessments intended to promote reflection on the technique of the instructor
5. A written “Language Awareness” exam (in which I scored 98%)
6. A moderated self-assessment on a previously produced learning resource
Outside of these assessed exercises, students were expected to work their way through the material available on the virtual learning environment, and to attend regular seminar-style "input sessions" to broaden and consolidate knowledge.
Absolutely! Although most of my professional experience has been in English teaching, I am very confident in my ability to teach other subjects. During high school, I supported students struggling with mathematics and French through the departments' mentoring schemes. I also did a lot of one-to-one tutoring on my own time, particularly in sciences and foreign languages.
